Final report: Senate Inquiry into Missing and murdered First Nations women and children
On 4 August 2022, the Senate referred an inquiry into missing and murdered First Nations women and children to the Legal and Constitutional Affairs References Committee for inquiry. The final report was tabled in the Senate on Thursday, 15 August 2024. Read Djirra’s response to the report.
Released on 20 August 2024, Framing the Future will continue to develop the specialisation of the family violence, primary prevention and sexual assault workforces through providing clearer education and training pathways, improving support for early career workers, creating more varied specialisation pathways as workers progress in their careers and improving options for experienced practitioners to move between service types. This rolling action plan underpins WIFVC's local objective to address workforce challenges.
The Domestic, Family and Sexual Violence Commission Yearly Report to Parliament
The Commission was established as an Executive Agency within the Australian Government Department of Social Services under the Public Service Act 1999 on 1July 2022. The Commissioner, Micaela Cronin, commenced in her role on 1November 2022, and addressed WIFVC members at the February 2023 member meeting. Watch Commissioner Cronin’s Press Club speech here.
Report of the Rapid Review of Prevention Approaches to End Gender-Based Violence
On 23 August 2024, the Australian Government received the final report from the expert panel appointed to undertake a rapid review of evidence-based approaches to prevent gender-based violence. The report provides specific and practical advice to strengthen prevention approaches, and builds on considerable work currently underway in the National Plan to End Violence against Women and Children 2022-2032. The report makes 21 recommendations across 6 key areas for action by federal, state and territory governments. The recommendations will be taken forward as a priority for discussion by National Cabinet.
