LAUNCH: Abuse of Older People Response Toolkit

In the lead up to World Elder Abuse Awareness Day (WEAAD) on 15 June, WIFVC was pleased to partner with the Northern Integrated Family Violence Service (NIFVS) and Holstep Health to develop and launch the Abuse of Older People Response Toolkit.

This practical resource is designed to equip professionals with the knowledge and tools to recognise and respond to the abuse of older people, fostering a community where people of all ages are safe, valued, and respected. Download the toolkit here.

Those in attendance at the toolkit’s launch last week were fortunate to hear from Dominique Horne from Access Care Network Australia who spoke of the value of the toolkit, highlighting the significance of language and the shift from ‘elder abuse’ to the ‘abuse of older people’. In her opening address, Katrina Dickinson, NIFVS MARAMIS & Workforce Development Coordinator, emphasised the importance of placing a decolonising lens on all our work.

Thank you to Meg Humphrey, Elder Abuse Prevention Project Coordination from Holstep Health, Katrina Dickinson, and Valentina Botti, NFVIS Communications and Program Support Office, for your extraordinary work on the Abuse of Older People Response Toolkit. Thank you to the WIFVC members who kindly provided their valuable insights into this work, including Sharon John from Western Health and Rosie Camilleri from The Orange Door WMA. WIFVC would also like to acknowledge WIFVC Workforce Development Office, Ellena Gill for her valuable contribution to this work prior to going on maternity leave.

Access the toolkit here.
